Urging Cancellation of RE/MAX Performance
Los Angeles, CA –– Wednesday January 26th, 2015 at 1:00pm the activist group CODEPINK will be delivering a petition with over 5,000 signatures urging Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler to cancel his performance at the annual RE/MAX R4 Convention in Las Vegas March 2-5th. The group will stage the delivery at Tyler’s residence in Laurel Canyon.
The action is part of the Boycott RE/MAX: No Open House on Stolen Land campaign by CODEPINK and over 25 allied organizations targeting RE/MAX for its complicity and profiting off of settlement sales in the West Bank.
RE/MAX has recently come under scrutiny for its role in selling confiscated Palestinian land to Israeli settlers through RE/MAX Israel that operates in the West Bank settlements, which have been condemned by international law and human rights advocates worldwide including UN Special Rapporteur on Palestine, Richard Falk. By selling homes in these illegal settlements, RE/MAX is directly profiting from Israel’s violations of international law.
“Steven Tyler must not let his good name and reputation be associated with a human rights offender such as RE/MAX,” says CODEPINK activist Kristin Delfs “as fans and activists, we say ‘Don’t Miss a Thing,’ Tyler don’t endorse RE/MAX’s violations of international law!”
The Boycott RE/MAX: No Open House on Stolen Land campaign calls on Steven Tyler to cancel his performance and demonstrate his commitment to an ethical and just peace for Israelis and Palestinians. Activists are available for interview.
More information about the campaign can be found at www.boycottremax.org.
