The US-based peace group CODEPINK launched the Remodel RE/MAX campaign asking the company to cut its ties with franchises involved in the sale or rental of settlement properties in the occupied West Bank. The Remodel RE/MAX campaign is part of the international Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, a call from Palestinian civil society to engage in non-violent activism to hold Israel accountable for its human rights abuses and violations of international law. The campaign is a broad coalition effort that includes partner organizations and individuals from across the globe.
The campaign was initiated when CODEPINK sent a letter to RE/MAX CEO David Liniger calling on RE/MAX International to end its participation in and profiting from the sale and rental of illegal settlement homes. Our letter was met with silence, and in November 2014 we officially launched our campaign.
What Needs to Happen
RE/MAX agents and brokers should not sell, rent or advertise properties that are built on illegally seized land. Members of the RE/MAX network should not refer clients to agents and brokers who are involved with such illegal properties.
